Issues on Lake Sevan Problems Discussed

On July 17, on the initiative of the RA NA Prosperous Armenia Faction a working debate on the theme The Problems of Sevan and the Ways of Its Solution , where the RA NA deputies, representatives of executive body, as well as the NGOs being involved with the ecological problems, was held.

The Chair of the RA NA Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs Naira Zohrabyan, considering the theme related to the agenda, has noted that it is necessary to jointly specify the situation with the specialists, voice the existing problems, make proposals demanding relevant solutions and pinpoint the further steps to be taken.

The Head of the Expertise Committee of Lake Sevan preservation adjunct to the RA NAS assessed rather heavy the situation of the river.

Highlighting the debate the deputy of the Prosperous Armenia Faction Mikayel Melkumyan proposed to form a Monitoring Group of relevant specialists which would regularly present the results of the observations connected with the lake to the relevant bodies.

The expert of the RA NAS Zoology and Hydro-Ecology Scientific Centre, the member of the SOS Sevan initiative Lusine Hambaryan presented the analysis on the lake quality and swamping.

The Acting Head of Water Resources Management Agency of the RA Ministry of Environment Edgar Pirumyan detailed the works to be done in the near future concerning Lake Sevan.

The Deputy General Director at National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the RA Ministry of Health Nune Bakunts

The Ecologist Karine Danielyan talked about the swamping problems and urged the attendees to be engaged with the restoration works of the irrigation network.

Those present also touched upon the possible versions and mechanisms of Sevan cleaning.

The questions addressed to the speakers related to the regulation of the water pass, the works done by Sevan National Park, the fish-breeding and the rest areas.
